Tutorial: How to Salvage Your Broken Blushes

Hi everyone! :) I'm back! My computer was being lame and was taking forever to do things, with apps freezing left, right and center. I got really tired of it and invested in a new laptop. I'm blogging from the comfort of my couch now :)

I was organizing some of my blushes and found one of them broken to pieces. Yep, don't you just hate it?

It was Wet N' Wild's Heather Silk blush. That company is notorious for making terribly packaged cosmetics, but the quality of this blush is too good to just throw away especially if you just used it once or twice. So... here's the next best thing: save it from its looming death!

Onto the tutorial :)

Step 1-2: Transfer the crumbled pieces into a little dish and ground the blush to mineral consistency

Below is the swatch! It is a bit too intense for me, especially for a mineral blush. Since it was so concentrated in the pan, it looks almost purple here. So I decided to mix it with a beige powder (used for setting makeup) to tone down the intensity of grounded blush.

Step 3: *optional*  Mix in the setting powder to the blush and stir well.

Step 4: I used the entire jar (.57 grams) of Bare Essentuals Pure Radiance to mix in with the blush to create a nice lustery sheen so it warms your face as you glow :) Stir well!

Make sure you mix it evenly!

Step 5: Test your results. I think mine came out just what I imagined. It's got that shimmery effect in it and it's subtle enough not to look overtly overdone.

Done! :) Time to try it out :)

I felt like I improved the formula for myself. I still have a bunch of other Wet N' Wild blushes but Heather Silk is one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy my little tutorial :) It was my first ever! Yay!

Anything you saved and/or made better? :) Do share! :)

I actually like the colour a lot on you! I thought you were just going to crush it and then pour it into a jar but this way you get to have a more unique colour :) thanks for sharing this tutorial!

Have you tried repressing the blush? You can use a few drops of alcohol and press the shadow back in the pan

Oh yay! I should have done this to my eyeshadows too but I was silly and would throw away the ones that broke xD

that is genius!!! thanks for sharing!! this is a great idea that I might actually try... I've had a broken WnW blush before but sadly, I just threw it out... If I only knew about this trick...

That's so cool! the blush looks totally different in the end and it flatters your face more bc it isn't as intense.

i really like how the color turned out, so pretty on you! it looks a bit matte in the photos but i imagine its more glowy in person... did you leave it that way or did you press it back to the pan?

very cool color in the end~ i should have saved my broken bronzer! lol i just dumped the broken bronzer~ :( my fav one too!

:( because I need to travel with it, I cannot have too much loose powder~ i only carry a few loose e/s and transparent setting powder~ anything else will become a huge liability~!

It looks fantastic on you! :P I actually broke several powder foundations and I salvaged them with Isopropyl alcohol and pressed them back. :)

Steph: ive seen that with the alcohol. I tried it on something else but it was major fail! Lol :p Im going to try it again :)

Coffret: I ended up leaving it as loose blush. I didn't have any container to press it back into either! :p

I must say, this is a rather ingenious idea! I like it. :) It does look a lot better now. I hate it when the blush is too intense. It looks so fake.

I thought you were going to re-press the blush with alcohol before I scrolled down. This is an interesting way to make the blush more unique :)

Great tip! Usually I just repress the blushes, but this looks good when I'm too lazy to do that!
