The first one I ever tried is the Nars Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in New Lover. It's just a very developed, gorgeous red that has very fine golden shimmers and a glossy finish.

I've lightly worn this here and it's extremely pigmented and super flattering. The golden shimmers give a fresh sheen to the shade and that alone really amps up the pretty factor! The color is really festive but subtle enough that it looks great without much effort.
I also ordered a lip pencil from Ulta, a much cheaper version of the Nars pencil, to see how it compares texture-wise.

Essentially, I couldn't even tell the difference in shades when I was wearing them two different days! The Ulta crayon is a bit more deeper in color than New Lover but the two colors very much looked identical on me. New Lover is more golden. Valentine also had a pretty golden sheen to it as well, but much more subdue. Texture-wise, Valentine was more matte while New Lover was glossier. I'd say the Ulta lip crayons are a much more drier formula than the Nars but the pigmentation for Valentine is pretty impressive.
Overall, I'm really in love with both pencils. My Ulta one was a steal at $2.99, but I do think they are going to discontinue this shade soon. Regularly, they are $8.00 each while the Nars one retails for $24.00 full size. The one I have is very close to full size but it was part of the VIB freebie thing that i got. $24.00 is pretty pricey! o_o
What are your thoughts on lip crayons/pencils? Are they worth your while? What other brands would you recommend? :)

I love how handy lip pencils are, so good for traveling. I own two of the NARS pencils but in the matte formula. My favorite is Dolce Vita.

the colour is amazing~ It looks a lot different on your lips than in the pencil in my opinion. nice colour though , very wearable :)
^____^ You have gorgeously shaped lips! I like both colors on you. I actually quite like lip crayons/pencils. I find the color payoff to be more sheer than your traditional lipstick (depending on the brand) so it's nice for a splash of color without having full on lipstick look (especially if you don't like that heavy feeling).

I'll definitely have to check out the Ulta lip crayons the next time I go.
I've always wanted to try one of these NARS lip pencils and that is too funny that the ULTA ones are just as good!

$24 might seem pricey where you live.. In Australia a nars lip pencil is $39!!

Many people are raving about this pencil and I am wondering whether this is similar to Clinique chubby sticks? Really want to try this one!
I only use 1 lipliner, sephora's nano liner in praline that matches my natural lipline. I do like these lip pencils that are also lipsticks, they work really well and I think they stay on longer than lipsticks.
i love this shade on you! i'm a fan of those nars pencils, even if they're $24 :/ I have mexican rose and it is super pretty and long lasting!
The two are so similar in colour - great dupe :) Never tried NARS lip crayons but from my experience with their products, I'm sure I won't be disappointed. I like Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains for the lasting power (Sweetheart especially) and the Clinique Chubby Stick I have in Woppin' Watermelon is a really easy to wear, everyday neutral pink :)
the lip pencil looks great, and these colors are so versatile you can wear them anywhere!

I'm surprised the NARS New Lover lip pencil has a lovely sheen to it. Not drying at all. Hmm, I've never explored lip pencils which I assume are not the same as Clinique chubby sticks or revlon balm stains?

I haven't tried lip pencils before. Love these shades! Can't really tell the difference between them too, though. But based on your comparison, I'd probably like Valentine better because I prefer matte or matte-ish lippies :)

Colorwise...very similar but I'd much rather a glossier and moisturizing finish! The shade is real natural, they're gorgeous on your lips! ^^
