Lip Liners and the such

Hello everyone!

Lip liners. I used to think they were for people who outlined their lips to look artificial and trashy. That thought has since went out the door when I realized how versatile and important a lip liner is. Much like an eye liner, a lip liner is used to define the lips, give it color, give it a base or to intensify a lipstick.

I have a total collection of 3 lip liners that I've been regularly using for 2 months now. I'm very drawn to natural, nude and earthy colors. I haven't had the need to get bright lip liners (yet), and I'm sure once this post is made, there will be readers who'll enable me to pick up more ;).

Here are the 3 in my collection that I've been using on a frequent basis.

L-R: Sephora Nano Lipliner in Native Nude, Cheery Chestnut, and Aura Science lip pencil in Toasty Nude

Heavily swatched

For reference, this is my natural bare lips with nothing on.
Sorry for my "beard", LOL I'll have to clean that up ASAP! * embarrassed*

Sephora Nano Lip Liner in NATIVE NUDE, topped with a clear lipgloss.

Sephora Nano Lip Liner in CHEERY CHESTNUT, topped with a clear lipgloss.

Aura Science Lip Liner in TOASTY NUDE, topped off with a clear lipgloss.

So there it is! Simple definition for the lips. I can't believe I just discovered this technique o_o I really like it. It's easy and effective and I can really see a difference.

What do you guys think of lip liners? Is it a must-have in your makeup arsenal? :)

I only have two lipliners, a nude shade and a pink one. but most of the time i only use the nude one as a neutral base for my sheer and nude lippies :D We have the same preference for lipliner shades. Haha

I own two lipliners and they are both exactly the same as I got it part of a gift with purchase from No7. I've probably only used them once or twice as lipstick doesn't seem to last on me however hard I try :( It's ok, I don't mind reapplying!

I have collected a few over the years. I have three from MAC, twp from Chanel, three for Burberry and one really old one from Stila. I use my nude ones more often then my others but what I can't live without are red lip liners. I love how they define my lips.

I'm a little scared of lip liners too, but after your demonstration I'm suddenly finding them rather useful! I'll definitely try a couple out to see how they work for me :)

I have a couple lip liners but am always looking out for that perfect nude one that will cover up pigmented sections of my lips but not change the color of the l/s I wear over it.

My favorite lip liner at the moment is Rimmel's Exaggerate Lip Liner in Eastend Snob, it's a really pretty pinky nude color. I usually pair it up with Loreal's Colour Riche Balm in Nourishing Nude. It's a perfect combo! :D

Honestly, I still haven't tried a lip liner...ever! It's definitely effective and I know it's useful...I just don't know which one to get.
Yours look great on you though!

I threw out lip liners I had (2 only!) because they were SO hard and dry. I think I'd actually like lip liners though if bothered to look for a higher quality ones.

Are they transfer proof?

I love using basic liners for everyday looks. It's an extra step that saves a lot of time later when it cuts down on the need to re-apply.

I thought lipliners were rubbish too until I bought Chanel's!

I had one from Etude house that I first bought after reading how important lipliners are. But it was smudgey that I thought lipliners were all like that. LOL, how wrong of me.

When I got Chanel's, I realise lipliners are really quite dry and stay on for ever, and ever. That's when I found the importance of using one. And now, when I know my lipstick is runny, and I am going to be out a long day, I would reach for my lipliner.

I really do try to love lip liners but most of the time I actually don't use it... I am such a lazy make up wearer! :(

Great post! All the shades look so good on you. I especially love the look of Toasty nude. It looks so pretty!

These lipliners don't look very pigmented to me. (Looking at the before & afters here!)

I don't know about recently, but Rimmel and Revlon colorstay are not bad for drugstore lipliners. My go to for my kit is MUFE Aqua Lips.

i have never been huge into lipliners but these look great! thanks for the post!

All of these look really pigmented on you. I've heard of using liner as an all over lip color but haven't personally done it myself. I think I probably own like 1 liner haha. They're not really part of my usual makeup routine. Love all the colors on you!

P.S. I'm holding a giveaway for a Le Edge Exfoliating Tool, hope you'll check it out here!

Very pretty colours in your lip liner collection! I'm not really a lip liner girl, cause I usually just wear my lip balms and the occasional colour. I probably should pick one up to have just in case. Thanks for the swatches!

Native Nude is sooooo pretty on you! You have lovely lips. :^)

I've never really gotten into using lip liners, but they do seem to last better than most lipsticks!

Such pretty and natural colours! I don't use lip liner, but more out of laziness than anything else. I really think that they're a great product and really versatile as well :)

Oh wow, what you did with toasty nude is just amazing! It looks so natural and polished! I've never tried lip liners out and I think I really should...I can't stand color slipping off and so this may be my next thing to try out! Thanks for sharing! :)

I've recently warmed up to lip liners as well! They're so fun to apply though, like drawing on your lips haha :D The colors look gorgeous on you -- especially Toasty Nude!

Great post! I can't live without lip liners, especially the nude, natural ones. My favorite lip liner the 99cents lip liners from Wet n Wild

Wow! Lip liners really do make your lips look great! Unfortunately I have a few lipliners but never end up using it because of the extra hassle. The thought of eating and drinking, and a visible lipline is too embarressing. So I stick with the basics.

I only started using lip liners recently, too, and I couldn't be more pleased!
