Happy Moon Day!

Happy Moon Day!

I grew up in a traditional household and my parents celebrated this day as if it were Thanksgiving. My mom used to make a ton of food, buy a ton of mooncakes and we'd all eat them at night when the moon outside was bright and clear. I've always had warm memories of that time and every September I look forward to it - seeing the foods in the Asian markets, boxes of beautifully packaged mooncakes, and the abundant stories telling us about the history of this pastry. It's nostalgic.

It feels like a lifetime ago but my brother and I now work so we can't really go home spontaneously. So imagine my surprise when I went to work this morning and there was a package sitting on my desk. One of my colleagues at work bought it for me and I felt so warm inside because it was the same brand my parents always bought. Reminded me of my Chinese roots and family and tradition and all good things about people.

Have fun, and enjoy the festivities!

Aww happy Moon Festival, Jen! My mom sent me a couple of pics of her homemade mooncakes. I'm actually going home for a short trip (granny's 90th birthday) in about a month, so hopefully she'll make a new batch for me then :)

awwww that was really sweet of your parents to send you the moon cake. My dad bought me a box too, and I was touched. Yes, warm memories indeed.

you know what's funny. i don't like moon cake.. but i REALLY REALLY love the egg inside.. growing up i would hollow out every single moon cake by eating the egg and leaving the rest of it and it would drive my mom crazy HAHA. fast forward 15 years...my hubs really really loves moon cake but hates the egg.. so we're like a perfect fit for eating moon cake hehe :)
