FOTD: Tightlining

I'm all about looking natural and enhancing your features - whether for work, play, or any day, having eyeliner handy makes an incredible difference. I've recently been obsessed with the lining the upper waterline (or "tightlining" as bloggers call it). It's really taken the traditional way of applying eyeliner to look more natural by lining the area closest to your lashes.

The benefits for me is that my lashes look fuller without really being fuller and my eyes look more open without much effort. Whenever I line my eyes the traditional way, I feel as if it looks too harsh or dramatic and I hate when i close my eyes, that sharp line! It doesn't look friendly on me ;)

What to use? I used Mac's Blacktrack gel liner as it's waterproof and won't smudge on me. Other bloggers use fine pointed liquid liners, a soft kohl liner or a regular pencil liner. I think gel is safest for me though... something about using a liquid liner to tightline scares the jeeves out of me.

I think this technique is a keeper! What's your eye lining method? :) Do share!

Tightlining is scary especially when it's so close to eyeballs!!!

I've used this method before and love the natural effect. It was hard to adjust to at first, but eventually I got used to it.

You did a wonderful job. Yes, it looks very natural.

I agree! Tight lining is a great natural eye lining technique! I hate looking harsh with the upper liner

This is what I do too, although I find that most times when I tight line, it always ends up smudging.

i use MAC fluidline to tightline too! that is the only thing that won't smudge like crazy on my eyes. pencil never works!

u look great!!! i love tightlining. it defines in such a subtle way.

I don't tightline on myself :p dont' trust my self with it hahaha but i tightline on other people like clients/models. It's a very good way to make your lashes look thicker :)

I actually don't use liner on my lower lash line - just a bit of shadow or highlighter!

Wow! Tightlining makes such a huge difference for you! It doesn't on me for some reason :(

I still can't get tightlining down pat! My eyes start watering and twitching like crazy every time I try. LOL!

Danggg...i love tightlining myself. However, I use the Urban Decay 24/7 liners and those just crease like heck when i fill in my lashes.

And I just wanted to ask if you found removing the liner hard after tightlining. I just always have a touch time removing it. In the end when the makeup is finally removed, my eyelids are all slightly red and puffy. >.<

Tightlining makes a lovely natural look! Though I like my liner to be dramatic so I always apply it on my upper lashline...and then tightline for a more dramatic effect :)

I always go the easy route-- using an angled brush and gel liner. I usually never line the bottoms of my eyes (because I tear up sooo much when I yawn, and I yawn a lot)

Lovely!!
I always tightline because I don't have a lot of lid space. I hardly wear eyeliner on my lid anymore.

I always tightline my eyes! It makes my lashes look more full and the overall effect just looks a lot nicer than if I only lined my upper lash line. You look very pretty in these photos! :)

LOL at 'something about using a liquid liner to tightlining scares the jeeves out of me.'

AHAH. I feel exactly the same! I usually just use pencil to tightline. Having said that, I've stopped tightlining because it always smudges everywhere it makes me look like I have raccoon eyes!

eehhe omg yes! Tightlining makes a huge difference for sure but I do mine with a liquid liner - I use Koji wink's and that has a brush tip so that doesn't bother me. I have MAC blacktrack but it's going to waste since I hate washing the brush every night. I can't tightline with pencil because I'm terrified of stabbing my eye xD

I haven't been able to master tightlining yet but It's definitely my favorite. I also like what they call the "asian cat eye." technique.

the gel liner looks great on you! I think this is a good technique as well :)

I always tight line my eyes! Gives your lashes that boost and makes them look so much fuller and thicker than they really are. Gel liners work great but I love tight lining with Dolly Wink Koji liquid eye liner because that brush is so tiny and so precise I can wriggle it between all of my eyelashes. It's awesome!

tightlining is so effective! i should do that more but i'm usually too lazy to set with eyeshadow and after a day of racquetball and classes, everything transfers to "pandaphilia does panda eyes tutorial mode" hahaha :) need to learn from the pros (you!)

Love the look with tightlining on you!

I've done it myself a few times but haven't done it often enough to decide whether or not I like it.

i love your eye shape jen! tight lining brings out how pretty your eyes are!

You're so adorable, Jen! I like using gel liners too, but usually use pencils to line my eyes. I know what your talking about that sharp line! Its definitely too harsh. sometimes purple/brown might be good alternatives :)

Pretty! I have sensitive eyes, so i seldom do tightlining, I just rub my eyes too much! I'm the opposite, I'm scared gel liners will stay on and won't come off lol.

You are so beautiful :)
I remember the first time I did tightlining... I was so scared that id poke my eye (which I ofcourse did haha)
I have very sensitive eyes too so the Lumene and Lumene Natural Code eyeliners are the only ones I can use :)

heyyy thank you for the lovely comments/compliments ^^!, I didn't use false lashes in my simple smokey eye but I did use a pair in my valentine look(didn't even show up much tho). The motives cosmetics lustrafy mascara (from www.timetoshop.ca) realllllly helps it's seriously the best mascara ever!! super volumizing adn seperating, non clumpy, waterproof but easy to take it off with makeup remover, holds curls non flaky, buildable.. omggg I love it soo freaking much!! Everytime I use that mascara, ppl ask me if my lashes are real or not ^^. when I want extra length I add the l'oreal carbon black mascara but that one clumps a little on me so i use it when my lashes are completely dried =] (I know you like natural look soo maybe skipping the legnthening part will be better specially when u use minimal e/z and no sharp liner ;)

I love tight lining wth, i will NEVER not tightline, its one of my pet peeves to see girls with all the liner and shadows nicely done but skipt out on tight lining... ekkkk!! I just wanna go adn suggest to her to fill them in but i know thats weird ahhaha.... I only tell my friends =P
