EOS Lip Balms

Happy Saturday everyone! I just came back from the Oakland Real Food festival. I did nothing but eat my brains out so I am pretty content right now. A little too content, maybe. I've taken a few pictures and they're in the process of getting edited for future posts.

I've been wanting to review the EOS lip balms for awhile now. These were a limited edition duo on sale at my local Target sometime in May. The pink one is strawberry sorbet (part of their permanent line) flavored and the purple is passion fruit.

EOS (Evolution of Smooth) lip balms are made with 95% organic materials, without the usage of parabens and petroleum. The company has a variety of products but these lip balms are the ones I've seen the most of.

When I first opened these up, I was intrigued by the soft inviting texture of the packaging but immediately thought about how odd it would feel if I pocket these in my jeans. While these little egg shaped orbs are cute to look at, the lip balm itself wasn't as impressive as all the reviews I've read and it's also certainly not as moisturizing as I thought. I also like the idea of how it looks, because god forbid it would ever be confused for Chapstick, but it's such a odd shape compared to the traditional stick. Then again, the cool thing about this is that you can moisturize your top and bottom lip all at once.

Pros
+ Moisturizes both lips at once
+ Unique packaging, fruity flavors
+ Natural, 95% organic
+ Inexpensive at $2-3 each

Cons
- Bulky
- Not moisturizing enough

Even though there are more pros than cons, the enormity of the two cons are enough for me not to repurchase.

Although they make really awesome stocking stuffers for those who find these attractive and practical to use, I prefer something much more rich as I'm prone to dry lips. My HG is still Smith's Rosebud Salve :)

Have you ever tried EOS lip balms? What are your thoughts? Do share!

I hope you're all having a joyous weekend. Goodnight, loves! :)

Everything purchased by me.

I have the one in sweet mint and now I am not using it. I found that the Smith's Rosebud Salve does a much better job moisturizing my lip:) Thanks for the review!

I have never tried these lip balms. They look cute but I'm glad that I didn't join the EOS bandwagon since I'm now seeing reviews about it not moisturizing enough.

thanks for the review! i've been wanting to try them out, but if it's not moisturizing enough, i won't buy it.

they look really nice, too bad they're not moisturizing enough.

I've never tried it.. I've been DYING to get my hands on them though (I don't know if we've 'released' them officially in NZ supermarkets and stuff yet) but at $16/lip balm, im skeptical now after reading your review >.<

Thanks for the tips! I got one of these from Tammy - I keep it in my bag. My lips are not really too dry though, so I guess I'm ok with the formulation.

I prefer the rosebud slave over eos too. Works a helluva lot faster!

Mhmm I'm jealous. FOOOOD festivals. :)

I haven't seen think pink or the purple ones, but I wantttt! I've only tried the red one, and still trying to finish it =/ Glad you had fun!!

I've tried all the flavors and the only one that I will keep rebuying is the sweet mint. And I totally agree, it's a good lip balm but not moisturizing enough.

I like the EOS lippies so just an everyday balm. I have other to moisturize my lips when they are really chapped. It's the darn packaging that gets me!

I agree 100% about them not being moisturizing enough!

omggg! i haven't seen either of these yet :) must addd to the collection bwahaha. i like the eos balms simply because they're quirky shaped. they aren't super moisturizing but i feel like they do last a while and smell/taste better than most. and they're cute - you know my weakness lol xD

/reply/ I know how you feel, it just keeps your feet in place, or if you have feet like me, makes you able to wear any pumps!

About lipbalms, I never tried EOS. I use one from the brand "Pural" and it's quite greasy and works really nice. I only use it twice a day because if you use lipbalms too often your lips really depend on the lipbalm and that's no good!

I NEED TO FIND THE PURPLE ONE! It's not crazily moisturizing but I greatly prefer this kind of chapstick texture than waxy ones. I think eos are good enough for the price. I never thought about putting them in my jeans, its a pretty good point when you brought it up. I'd love to try the Rosebud Salve next!

I have tried the EOS balms and my boyfriend loves them, but I feel kind of meh about it. I've been wanting to try the rose salve but the reviews are so 50/50. Half have them as their HG product and the other half say it's glorified Vaseline.

I don't like EOS either. And you have the same HG lip balm as me. :)

I have really wanted the purple one just because I love purple! But you are so right. The Rosebud Salve is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better, even if it looks less appealing. I prefer the rose salve over the EOS balm any day of the week.

I agree with you.. EOS are not moisturizing enough.. I LOVE my Nuxe lip balm which I reviewed in blog.. Also, a recent discovery is Jack Black Lip balms.. They're wonderful.. They keep my lips hydrated all day! you must try

i agree with what you said, while these balms are moisturizing they just aren't enough for very dry lips. :(

agreed- like eos, but ROSEBUD is HG. Great post!

Thanks for the review. I love the packaging color and the actual shape is interesting. I've been reading a lot of so-so reviews about EOS so I think I'll skip it. My lips are super dry so I also need a lot of moisture.

I'm so glad you mentioned Rosebud salve because that's my fav and HG too :D too bad EOS isn't moisturising enough :(

tiffyama said...

I agree. I have one EOS balm and it's a bit too..."waxy" and not moisturizing enough as I too am prone to dry lips. -sigh-

I saw these at Target a lot and was tempted to buy it due to its packaging. I love how they look like little bonbons. And eek, thanks for the review because I am sure I would have probably bought it one day.

I love the Rosebud Salve too. I always have couple that I use. I use the minted rose one.

hmm builky and not moisturizing enough is good reasons for me not to get this.. thanks for the review!

I really love the EOS lipbalms. I have one in honeydew mint right now that I can't stop using! It smells lovely and tastes yummy too. I know, gross that I "eat" my lipbalms, but I swear, I don't take a bite off them! :)

I'd give the rosebud salve a go, but I really hate applying balm to my lips with my fingers. :(

I agree with you, all the pros but the cons are too big too ignore =p

I have sweet mint =]

I feel like I'm the last person on earth not to own these! :P I'm definitely going to buy them, thanks for the review!

The packaging is not practical, but its fun and I like how soft it makes my lips- I'm a fan.

agree with you, don't like the bulky packaging. can't fit in wristlet without bulging. the scent is yummy though. my current fav is jack black lip balm, but it's a little bit more expensive.

i also found that the EOS lip balms weren't moisturizing enough. i definitely have to try this Rosebud Salve!

cute & little

i heard about these, but haven't seen them here. i guess they are more a novelty item...as you say, great stocking stuffers. i'll have to try the salve...my lips are always dry :)

I have one of these, I think I got it for $1 at walgreens or something like that but have not yet used it. If it is drying I am probably going to give it to someone else. I need something more moisturizing because my lips get super dry. As for your comment....lol! Yes, I do wear jeans actually I have 14 pairs of designer jeans bc I can wear them to my office 5 days a week and bravoe is my escape for denim-free outfits

I have the pink EOS but I want the baby purple one and I've been looking for it and yet nothing! lol

I agree that these aren't the best when it comes to moisturizing dry lips but I can't resist the super cute colors and packaging. I've tried the rosebud salve before, and although it is very moisturizing, I don't really like the idea of using petroleum jelly on my lips.

cute balls as lipbalms hehe no i havent try them but love to!

eos lip balms!! i agree with you that it's not moisturizing enough and that its bulky! but i still absolutely love these things. something about twisting them and locking them up aligned with the thumb indent makes me giddy about it. and the taste of it is unlike other lip balms because of its natural ingredients.

if it was more moisturizing and left a better shine on my lips this would be A+ for me!

nisa said...

I love EOS lipbalm! I use every day and make my lips health and didn't dry.

Sharlynn said...

Have yet to try any! They aren't locally availible although I'm tempted to get some through an online seller! Hahah...I only now realize that you'd do both upper and lower lip at the same time due to its shape. Bulky is definitely a con to me as well.

The EOS lip balm looks good to me, even though the packaging is too bulky for my taste. However, if the product itself is good I guess I could live an egg. ^O^;; It's not available in my country and I don't want to splurge too much $$ (my only choice is ebay) on a product that isn't moisturizing.

Crystal said...

As others have said, they don't moisturize nearly enough and, although I love mint, I find the sweet mint a bit too strong. I wouldn't buy it again.

I have the strawberry one. I agree with your review, it's not quite as moisturizing as I wish it would be.. Lovely post!

Smith's Rosebud Salve is my favourite too but not the scented one though, some how they don't work as well.
